The Newman Wachs Racing team hopes to make a splash in its first season with an experienced staff guiding two promising young drivers. American Joe D’Agostino and New Zealander Daniel Gaunt emerged from a talented pack of testers and both drivers demonstrated good speed and an ability to work closely with the team, providing good feedback in a short amount of time on the racetrack. American Steve Ott has also been added to the NWR team after showing remarkable speed during early rounds of the 2006 Atlantic season. The NWR team will look to develop the skills of rising racers while battling for solid results in the challenging 2006 Atlantic Championship.
NWR Team Bio Academy-Award winning actor Paul Newman met Eddie Wachs when both men were racing in the Can-Am series in the early 80s. The two remained close friends over the years and talked about someday forming their own team. When the new direction of the Champ Car Atlantic Championship was announced last year, both Newman and Wachs decided now was the time and Atlantic was the place. Newman, the co-owner of the six-time Champ Car championship-winning Newman/Haas Racing team, joined forces with Wachs, a former Trans-Am, Super Vee and SCCA racer, to develop and mold young drivers into champions. In addition to its owners, the team brings a wealth of motorsports experience to the Atlantic grid this season. Former Formula 5000 competitor Michael Brockman, SCCA Trans-Am legend Horst Kwech and former Atlantic engineer and team owner Ove Olsson will help manage the team. Between them, these racing veterans bring nearly 200 years of experience on the track. For Newman, Wachs, Olsson, Brockman and Kwech the time is now and Champ Car Atlantic is the place. ![]() ![]() ![]() Team Manager: ![]() Ove Olsson ![]() 847.996.1080 ![]() ove@newmanwachsracing.com ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
